The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives

All parents want children who are confident, motivated and goal-driven. Authors William Stixrud and Ned Johnson will share “valuable practical advice for parents on how to pull back, when to engage, and when to let go”. From their recent book The Self-Driven Child, they offer a combination of cutting-edge brain science, the latest discoveries in behavioral therapy, and case studies drawn from the thousands of kids and teens they have helped over the years. Free admission and light refreshments. RESERVE ESTE DIA para la Charla de Educación para padres: El niño auto-manejado – La ciencia y el sentido de dar a nuestros niños el control sobre sus vidas
Martes 12 de marzo de 7:00 a 8:30 PM en el Centro de Artes (PAC) de la Escuela Secundaria de Palo Alto
El niño auto-manejado es una combinación de los bordes de la ciencia del cerebro, los últimos descubrimientos en terapia de comportamiento, y estudio de casos de miles de niños y adolescentes que ellos han ayudado en el transcurso de los años. Los autores William Stixrud y Ned Johnson compartirán “valiosos consejos prácticos para padres sobre cuando es tiempo de retroceder, cuando comprometerse y cuando dejarlos ir”. ¡Padres, estudiantes y educadores son bienvenidos! Admisión libre y se servirán refrescos. Habrá traducción para el español y mandarín. Evento auspiciado conjuntamente por PTSA de Paly y PTSA de Gunn. Por favor regístrese aquí.

Welcome back to school!

If you are a new parent, or just trying to get back into the swing of things, check out our New Parent page and make sure you’re signed up for all the right e-news feeds, and that you know what information is available to you.  Back to School packets should be sent out to your home around August 10th.  You should have received a letter from the Principal with back to school events, and know that your student’s schedule should be available to them on Infinite Campus now.

International Lunch Buffet Volunteers Needed!

We need parents to sign up to help at the Annual Gunn PTSA International Buffet on Thursday, April 19, at lunchtime. Volunteer duties include food servers, cashiers, set up, clean up and hydration. Click here to sign up.
Student tickets go on sale for $5 Monday, April 16 and are limited to 1,000 diners.
Menu includes international cuisines such as chow mein, chicken, pasta, hummus, quiches, pierogis, glass noodles, sushi, tacos, butter chicken, fruit bars, hot dogs and salads.
PAUSD has announced that no food can be made at home and brought onto campus for this event due to health concerns for our students, and only food produced at a professional kitchen can be served.
If you prefer to donate money,  you can either donate through the PTSA website or PayPal. To use PayPal, log into your PayPal account and use the Gunn PTSA email address ( to “Pay For Goods And Services” (PTSA pays the fees) or “Send Money To Friends and Family” (you pay the fees).
The World Languages Department and several language clubs are planning a whole week of events during Gunn’s International Weekfestivities April 16-20.
